Biography Aaron Charles Cook passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 29, 2007, at his mother’s home in Peoria. Aaron was born January 27, 1983 in Jacksonville, Illinois. He was the beloved and cherished son of Janice Ann (James Goble) McSherry of Peoria and Charles Thomas (Marjorie) Cook of Verona, Wisconsin. He was adored by his big sister, Kathleen Ananda (Jason Banfield) Cook of Madison, Wisconsin and idolized by his little brother, Devon Thomas McGuire Cook of Verona. Aaron also leaves behind his girlfriend of three years, Amanda Welsh. His kind and loving spirit will always be missed by his grandmother, Joan Eileen Cook of Moline, Illinois, and his many cousins, aunts and uncles, other extended family members, and innumerable friends. Aaron graduated in 2001 from Woodruff High School, where he was a member of the cross country team for all four years. While attending Woodruff, Aaron was recognized for having perfect attendance and was named the Most Improved Cross Country Runner, his senior year. After graduation, Aaron attended the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He then pursued his passion for working with cars, graduating from the Illinois Central College Automotive Technology Program in 2006. He was proud of his first job at Peoria Toyota and was looking forward to the promise of his career in the future, as he intended to learn more about hybrid and other automotive technologies. He was formerly employed doing technical support for Hitachi products, at AFINA. As a child, Aaron’s favorite television show was MacGyver. Like his television hero, Aaron was brilliant, complex, and loved solving problems. His family celebrated these parallels over the years by bestowing on him gifts of gadgetry. A natural comedian, Aaron’s presence in a room insured smiles and laughter. His diverse interests and talents ranged from the practice of Kung-fu, to playing guitar, to raising exotic lizards and caring for rescued greyhounds. Aaron also enjoyed attending rock concerts, cooking and watching movies. He was a fan of alternative metal and Nine Inch Nails and Hatebreed were his favorite groups. He collected Nine Inch Nails memorabilia. Aaron liked spending time with his friends: Amanda, Todd, Todd and Kyle, but loved seeing Conner. He enjoyed being at Jimmy’s Bar, the West Peoria Quarry, the cabin in Indiana and anywhere outdoors. Aaron’s family is proud of his kindness toward animals, love of children and the love he displayed for his family and friends. He was sensitive, gentle, a deep thinker and loved to make people laugh. Aaron’s incredible sensitivity and caring was extended to all, brightening and enriching the lives of the people who were fortunate enough to know him. And in return, the love his family and friends feel for him is immeasurable in depth and endurance. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Unity Church of Peoria. A visitation was held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at the church, after which family and friends gathered in the style of an old Irish wake at Kelleher's Irish Pub to celebrate Aaron's life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made in his memory to support research into the cause and treatment of depression to NARSAD: The Mental Health Research Association, at 60 Cutter Mill Road, Suite 404, Great Neck, New York 11021, www.NARSAD.org. You may also make a donation to a local greyhound rescue organization, REGAP of Illinois, Inc. at 4107 E. 3rd Road, Mendota, IL 61342, http://www.regapgreyhounds.org. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Clary Funeral Consultants in Peoria.
